Coccolithus supremus Bown & Dunkley Jones, 2006
Circular species of Coccolithus exhibit a closed central area surrounded by a non-protruding tube cycle. The proximal shield is much narrower and thinner than the distal shield. Extinction lines on the tube cycle are laevogyre (left-handed) distally and dextrogyre (right-handed) proximally. The extinction angle is about 85° on the tube cycle but about 74° on the proximal shields on the distal side. Coccolithus supremus differs from Coccolithus gracejacovidesiae in having a closed central area, whereas the latter has an open central area.
