Cyclagelosphaera centrumelliptica Varol & Bowman, 2019
Relatively large (6.0–10.0 μm) circular Cyclagelosphaera having a distinctly elliptical and closed central area.
From Latin centrum elliptica, elliptical center-referring to its elliptical central area.
Diameter = 8.43 μm; length (central area) = 3.87 μm; width (central area) = 2.86 μm.
Cyclagelosphaera centrumelliptica is a circular species having a distinctly elliptical and closed central area with a smooth appearance. The proximal shield is relatively small, but easily detectable by its first-order yellow birefringence colour in cross-polarised light (XPL). The tube cycle is not easily distinguished from the shields or the central area.
Cyclagelosphaera centrumelliptica is distinguished from other species of Cyclagelosphaera by having a large and elliptical central area. Cyclagelosphaera deflandrei has variants with an elliptical central area, but these forms are much larger (> 12.0 μm) with a very narrow central area.
