Gephyrocapsa protohuxleyi is invalid under ICN Article 40.1 because no holotype was designated. The size range in the original publication is given as follows:
Length: 2.2-3.4µm
Bridge angle to major axis: ~30°
Small species of Gephyrocapsa are characterised by a central area wider than the pelaga, with a bridge spanning it and oriented at a low angle to the major axis of the placolith. The distal shield bears slits between each segment.
