Schizosphaerella oblongata Worsley, 1971
The wall remains in constant extinction, with its optic axis (c‑axis) oriented perpendicular to the microscope stage, whereas the central area shows strong birefringence, exhibiting 1st‑order yellow interference colours.
Large (8.0–14.0 µm) species of Calcicalathina consist of a high, narrow wall and a wide, dome‑shaped, granulated central area that distally rises above the wall. Calcicalathina oblongata frequently settles on either side or in plan view owing to its similar height‑to‑width ratio. No distal process is present in the specimens examined.
