Optical Properties

The outer protolith wall remains in constant extinction because the optic axis (c‑axis) is perpendicular to the microscope stage. In contrast, the inner protolith wall, radial bars, and distal process exhibit greyish‑white interference colours.

Remarks

Hexagonal species of Corollithion are characterised by a double protolith wall and a large central area spanned by six radial bars that extend to the midpoints of the sides, each supporting a stellate distal process. Short spines commonly arise only from the vertices.
