Diagnosis

Hexagonal, symmetrical discoasters have a large featureless central area and tapering robust arms with distal ridges that terminate in notches and flaps. The diameter of the central area is much greater than the length of the arms.

Etymology

In honour of Osman Soyhan, Basin Modeller, Saudi Aramco, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

Dimensions Of Holotype

Maximum diameter: 16.22 µm, Diameter of the central area: 11.02 µm, Length of the arms: 2.60 µm (measurements from bright field micrograph).

Remarks

Discoaster soyhanii differs from Discoaster kugleri and Discoaster fawzyi in that it has very short and tapering robust arms. Discoaster soyhanii is further distinguished from Discoaster kugleri by having flaps at the end of the arms.
