Type Species

Camuralithus pelliculathus de Kaenel & Villa, 1996

Description

Elliptical placolith arched longitudinally. Diagonal crossbars span the central area. The proximal plate is strongly birefringent, but the diagonal cross is weakly birefringent [better seen at 45°] in polarised light.

Remarks

Camuralithus is distinguished from similarly arched Campylosphaera Kamptner (1963) by being elliptical and having diagonal crossbars. Campylosphaera is oblong in shape and has axial crossbars. Camuralithus was described as having three shields, but we can not substantiate it.
