Coccolithus taganus Fonseca, 1976
The holotype represents a reworked specimen that was redeposited into Early Miocene sediments.
A small (<3.0 µm) morphological variation of Prinsius martinii, characterised by double tube cycles, was mistakenly assigned to Praeprinsius dimorphosus with a single tube cycle (e.g., Bown et al., 2023), thereby contributing to taxonomic ambiguity.
This form was also erroneously assigned to Reticulofenestra by Pujos (1985) and to Dictyococcites by de Kaenel in de Kaenel & Londeix (2014).
