Helenea stroggyla Varol, in prep.
From the Greek stroggylos, meaning “round”, referring to its rounded outline.
Small (<6.0 µm), circular species of Helenea are characterised by a small central area spanned by a cross with bifurcated arm terminations, supporting a short distal process with a distinct square-shaped termination.
The entire species exhibits first-order, slightly greyish-white interference colours. The pelaga of Helenea stroggyla exhibits inclined extinction, but its elongation direction cannot be determined.
Helenea stroggyla is distinguished from Helenea conus by its smaller size (<6.0 µm) and by a relatively narrower central area relative to the width of the pelaga.
