Micula prinsii Perch-Nielsen, 1979
In honour of Dr A. R. Bowman, nannofossil specialist, Alabama, U.S.A., in recognition of his contributions to taxonomy and biostratigraphy of calcareous nannofossils.
Cuboid or stellate calcareous nannofossils have blocks of crystals arranged in an intriguing pattern. A small central cross, with its arms aligned diagonally, often occupies the central area.
Optical Properties: The blocks of Bowmania exhibit parallel extinction with length-slow (+) elongation.
Bowmania differs from Micula by having blocks with length-slow (+) elongation, whereas Micula has blocks with length-fast (-) elongation.
