Small (< 4.0 μm) elliptical species of Dictyococcites have a central area entirely closed by the tube cycle. In this study, Coccolithus taganus Fonseca (1976) is considered a
reworked Prinsius martinii (small form) due to a double tube cycle in the holotype.
