Cretarhabdus orbicularis Varol, in prep.
From the Latin orbicularis, meaning “round” or “disc-shaped”, referring to the outline of the placolith.
Circular to sub-circular species of Cretarhabdus are constructed of a cretarhabdid pelaga sloping towards a distally arched central area, which is spanned by an indistinct axial cross supporting a distal process. The inter-cross area is occupied by lateral bars that delimit pores arranged in two or more complete concentric cycles. The number of pores in the outer cycle is typically 20, but can be 19 or 21.
Optical properties consistent with those of Cretarhabdus, but its elongation direction cannot be determined.
The circular to sub-circular shape is a characteristic feature of Cretarhabdus orbicularis.
